Peter Sherman, MD
Peter Sherman is a practicing community pediatrician and board certified in both pediatrics and adolescent medicine. His main professional interest is in the provision of health care to underserved pediatric populations. Dr. Sherman is director of the Residency Program in Social Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. His goal with the program is to train a cadre of physicians who can be intimately involved with improving health outcomes in underserved communities. Dr. Sherman has worked extensively in homeless health care, serving as medical director for a mobile health van program for homeless families and serving as chair of the Healthcare for the Homeless Clinician's Steering Committee. He has lectured locally and nationally on issues concerning underserved children including the health of homeless children and the impact upon children of witnessing domestic violence.
Dr. Sherman served as co-chair of the Ambulatory Pediatrics Association's Serving the Underserved Special Interest Group. He also served for six years as a member of the steering committee for the Health Care for the Homeless Clinician's Network, a national organization of over 500 health professionals caring for adults and children who are homeless, including one year as chair of the organization. He served on the Board of Directors of the Public Health Association of New York City and co-chair the American Academy of Pediatrics Section II–Chapter 3 Committee on Child Abuse and Domestic Violence. |
