Isabel Dominguez
Isabel Dominguez is a translator and health promoter at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Free Clinic. She was born in Celaya, Mexico. In 1956, she moved to Tijuana, Baja California and attended a private school until the eighth grade. She has lived in San Diego for 26 years. Ms. Dominguez became involved with the UCSD Free Clinic first as a patient, then as a volunteer, and soon as an employee. Her role is to be the health promoter for the clinic, to translate for the staff and to provide support to a support group. She says, “I am like a bridge to the community.”
As a volunteer and as a staff member, Ms. Dominguez says she has learned much from the medical students, nurse practitioners, doctors, dentist, optometrist and family counselor. Here involvement is something she always wanted to do -- to serve. |
