  PHYSICIANS ASSISTANTS

Physician Assistants

Physician assistants play generally play a big role in underserved patient care. In urban and rural health clinics, physician assistants become the principle health care provider when the physician is only available one or two days in the week. While PAs must work under physician supervision, PAs are becoming more and more versatile in the health community.

Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants - The AFPPA works to foster the educational and professional interests of Family Practice Physician Assistants by promoting clinical and academic excellence and providing a forum for assembling and distributing information important to our profession.

Association of Physician Assistant Programs - The APAP works to assist PA educational programs in the instruction of highly educated physician assistants. The association offers an array of services for PA programs, faculty, students, and the general public aimed at fulfilling this mission.

National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants - NCCPA is the only credentialing organization for physician assistants in the United States. Established as a not-for-profit organization in 1975, NCCPA is dedicated to assuring the public that certified physician assistants meet established standards of knowledge and clinical skills upon entry into practice and throughout their careers. Every U.S. state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories rely on NCCPA certification criteria for licensure or regulation of physician assistants. Approximately 50,000 physician assistants have been certified by NCCPA.

Public Health Service Academy of Physician Assistants - The purposes of this academy are to render loyal and honest service to the medical profession and to the public, to develop and enforce continuing educational programs for the Physician Assistant and Academy membership, to promote the Physician Assistant concept within the Public Health Service through education of professional and lay people, and to promote similar interests in the student academies.
