Who are Clinical Psychologists?
- Definition
With growing emphasis on the importance of mental health in patient
health, psychologists are still an under represented health professional
in rural and urban clinics. Because of their expertise in various
aspects of the human mind and behavior, psychologists are regarded
as one of the most important players in the a transdisciplinary
health care team. Mental health clinicians need to educate all members
of the health care team of issues concerning the mental health of
a patient or population.
Who are Marriage and Family Therapists?
- Definition
In poor underserved communities, there is a growing epidemic of
families headed by single mothers contributing to some of the primary
causes of poverty. There are also fluctuating high rates of teen
pregnancies and unwanted pregnancies. Although primarily focusing
on therapy of a non-medical nature, marriage and family therapists
can be invaluable in unifying families in the medical setting as
well as educating other health care team workers of issues pertaining
to marriage and family such as enhancing communication between family
members and researching/teaching a perspective of human development
and interpersonal relationship.
